Excellency:
 
According to your press release (Oct. 13, 2009) you will conduct an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia and state visits to the Republic of Croatia and the Hellenic Republic ( Greece ) from October 21 until October 31, 2009. 
During your visit to Croatia you plan to meet with the Mayer of the City of Split Mr. Zeljko Kerum .
 
As Canadian of Serbian origin I would like to express my disappointment with your decision to meet Mr. Kerum. 
 
As a guest of the “Sunday at 2” * TV show (on Croatian public TV station) Split Mayor, Zeljko Kerum, made some racial and nonsensical statements that are close to Nazi fascism. His ideas about the Serbs are not only preposterous, but are perhaps even ripe for a criminal prosecution.
 
Kerum is the product of a general mood within the Croatian government where politicians believe that they can say whatever they want against the Serbs and face no consequences.
 
In his horrific statement Mr. Kerum said that “Serbs should know where their place is” a threat that has not been heard in Croatia since the time of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman** and Hitler, i.e. Nazi State of Croatia . ***
 
Split Mayor Željko Kerum also said that Serbs and Montenegrins had brought a lot of misery to Croats in the past and he would not let one “enter his family, and “would not like to have a Serb for his son-in law.” “Serbs have never brought us anything good, nor will they now,” said Kerum adding that “I wouldn’t like any Serbian company to come to Croatia , be it for a big or small job.”
 
Also, according to your press release of October 16, you will lay a wreath at the War Memorial Centre in Vukovar on October 27. Your Excellency, before you do that may I suggest you to visit the 1994-95 ethnically cleansed city of Knin where some 250.000 Serbs once lived, but were either killed or expelled out of their homes during the Croatian "Operation Storm" **** in August of 1995. 
 
Please lay a wreath in Medak Pocket ***** where in 1993 members of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry attacked by the Croat army fought valiantly to protect Serbian civilians and to save the UN mandate in Croatia. It was the most significant fighting Canada had seen since the Korean War.
 
On your tour, please pay your respect to hundreds of thousands of  Serbs, Gypsies and Jews brutally killed in Croatian Concentration camps in Jasenovac and Stara Gradiska in the Independent Nazi State of Croatia during World War II.
 
Hoping that you will reconsider your meeting with the Mayor of the City of Split and that you will be able to broaden your itinerary , I feel free to attach few references for your information.
